History at Three Springs: Gala, in it's many strains, has been grown at Three Springs since the 1990's

Now one of the most ubiquitous varieties in the world, this variety started a revolution in large scale commodity apple varieties - it being the first bi-color apple to find favor in large grocers in what was, at the time, a sea of Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, and Granny Smith monotone apples. And, much like it's Red Delicious contemporary, chance mutations have created countless strains of Gala - improvements in size, earlier ripening, later ripening, better shape, better color etc.
